As a recent graduate, I had plenty of options when it came time to decide where I wanted to begin my nursing career. I chose Lovelace Westside Hospital for many reasons.
While I was in still in school, I began working as a nurse extern in the hospital’s intensive care unit. I was lucky to have wonderful mentors who guided me in the transition from student nurse to R.N. Even now, I continue to feel the support of my co-workers as everyone here is always willing to help out.
I really enjoy working in a smaller hospital. Here employees get to know each other on a personal level, and they truly take pride in their job and in the hospital itself. People are more involved in hospital or community events, such as health fairs. As the only hospital on the west side of Albuquerque, we’re able to see the impact we have on the community and that’s really rewarding.
I love working in the ICU, because I am always learning something new. The smaller nurse-to-patient ratio allows me to really focus on the care of my patients. I also am able to enjoy getting to know the people I care for and their families personally.
I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to be a part of the continued growth of Lovelace Westside Hospital. It’s a really special place.
